JobSite M-64R Handheld Multizone Remote Control

Posted on : 5:35 PM | By : ZJ.aStore | In :

Product Overview

The M-64R remote control provides complete wireless control of a jobsite multizone system

Product Feature

  • Wireless remote control for controlling JobSite multizone audio system from other rooms
  • Communicates with JobSite IR receivers to send commands to distant A/V components
  • Function keys can be programmed for specialized tasks; standard volume and channel up/down keys
  • Numeric keypad offers direct disc and channel access for CD changers and DSS tuners
  • Includes 2 AA batteries; measures 2.5 x 8.5 x 1.62 inches (W x H x D); 2-year warranty

Product Specifications

Enjoy complete wireless control over your JobSite multizone audio system with this handheld remote control. Compatible with such JobSite IR receivers as the IR-FMR flush-mount, IR-SMR surface-mount, and IR-WMR wall-mount models, the remote lets you control virtually any A/V component from another room, provided an IR receiver is installed nearby. Simply point the remote at the IR receiver, which sends the signal to an IR connecting block hub. The hub then routes the signal to the IR emitters mounted on your components. As the emitter reads the information, it tells a component to play, skip, repeat, or whatever else you want it to do--all from a location several rooms away.

The M-64R remote is particularly handy when teamed with JobSite's M-64 multizone receiver, which can control up to six different zones of stereo speakers. Once the entire system is integrated, you can operate your components from wherever your speakers are located, whether in the garage, the upstairs bedroom, or the kitchen. The remote buttons range from frequently used keys such as volume and channel up/down to more specific function keys, which can be programmed to handle specialized tasks. The keypad also offers numeric keys for direct disc and channel access of CD changers and DSS tuners; transport keys such as play, fast-forward, rewind, stop, and pause; cursor keys for menu operation; and source keys that let you choose the component and control the overall system.

The remote comes with a pair of AA batteries and measures 2.5 by 8.5 by 1.62 inches (W x H x D). Homeowners with complex multizone systems may want to purchase a separate remote for each zone to prevent frustrating "where's the remote?" moments. The M-64R is backed by a two-year warranty.

What's in the Box

Remote Mate 1-PACK remote control organizer

The is the second one of these that I have bought over the years. I am still using my first one, but wanted a second one for upstairs. This is a great little device to keep all the remotes in one spot. I especially like that it is a flat design, so you can pop it in a coffee table drawer if you like, to keep the remotes out of view most of the time, but handy for everyone to find when they need them. It looks fine on top of the table too, but I like being able to tuck it away sometimes, something you can't do with the wooden box types of remote organizers. It holds 3 of my remotes side by side at a time. Almost holds four, but some of mine are too wide. The velcro makes it easy to remove the remote to use and then plop it right back on. The included velcro has been strong enough to hold the remotes for the few years I have had my first one. All in all, a very inexpensive product that does exactly what it claims. Not fancy, but the only thing that shows after the remotes are on it are the handles on the side, and they are simple, black just like the rest of the devices, so nothing too obtrusive to look at.

Opteka XL Remote Release Cord for Sony Alpha A900, A700, A350, A300, A200, & A100 Digital SLR Cameras (10 Foot Cord)

This is a good remote release cord that does what it's supposed to do, and for a price that's a mere fraction of what I'd have had to pay for the genuine Sony remote cord. Plus, the fact that it has a 10-ft cord -- in lieu of the shorter, standard length -- increases the scope of its possible uses. A version with a 3-foot cord is available for five dollars less, but I feel that the 10-foot cord is well worth the slightly higher price. Just a few minor quibbles ...

1. The button feels kind of mushy, with the transition between "half-press" and "full-press" not very firm or well-defined. This makes me wonder how durable it's going to be in the long run. However, it works as it's supposed to (at least for now), and considering that I could buy four of these with the money the genuine Sony remote (with the shorter cord) would have cost me, I find this to be an acceptable compromise.

2. The molded right-angle connector that plugs into the camera faces forward when installed. Personally, I would have been happy with a straight connector. But if the connector has to be the 90-degree type, I wish they'd at least made it to point toward the back of the camera, instead of the front.

3. The Amazon-supplied photo at the top of the page is not an accurate portrayal of this remote. I have uploaded a snapshot of what this remote *really* looks like; and as you can see, both the handle and the connector plug are different to those shown in the Amazon photo. But that's okay -- I like the actual layout of the handle much better than I would have liked the one shown in the Amazon photo.

Logitech Harmony 900 Remote Control (Black)

Logitech Harmony 900 Remote Control (Black) Review

The first thing to point out is that CNET calls this the best remote they've ever tested, and I tend to agree. It's well-constructed, well-balanced has good button placement and the touchscreen is phenomenal.

The attention to detail is great, from the rubberized bottom, to the battery cover which doesn't accidentally slip off as much as older models, to the charging cradle, to the touch screen which, for example, displays a graphical circle, square, X, and triangle button when you're using the PS3.

On that note it's worth pointing out that the Harmony line of remotes is the only universal remote series I know to support the PS3 system with its separately sold PS3 adapter.

I also greatly appreciated that the RF module no longer has to be plugged into the computer via USB like the older Harmony 890 model. I used to dread going behind my equipment to unplug it and drag it to my computer. Now the 900 remote handles communication and updating of the RF module!

My chief complaints aren't about the hardware, which is near perfect aside from occasional delays with commands issued to the RF module/IR blaster, I just don't like the software, which I find clumsy and confusing to use. For example, to change the title of an activity, you don't double-click it, enter a name, then click elsewhere (an intuitive 3-step process); rather, you click a "Change Settings" button, then click a "Change Name" radio button, then click "Continue", then enter in the name, then click "Save" (5 unintuitive steps that are difficult to figure out until you get used to the software).

Also the support is pretty poor. I had a problem setting up a device for one activity and tried to find the support number for Harmony remotes and discovered I couldn't find it online; it was only buried deep in the software's support pages! Once I finally figured out where to call, I was on hold for about 1/2 an hour before a foreign support rep said my setup looked fine, and that I was experiencing a rare issue that required tier 2 tech support... who would call me back within 48 hours. Huh?!? That sort of wait is bad enough, but they actually missed the deadline and called back 3 days later, when I was on vacation! Ugh!

However, despite my complaints about the software, there really isn't anything better on the market and the phenomenal hardware makes this the best remote you can buy if you can afford it. I recommend it!

***

If you're a Mac owner like me, you may run into trouble with the Harmony 900 drivers, which think they're a new network connection for some reason. See here for manual configuration instructions:
